EU updated the harmonised standards for toys under the Toy Safety Directive

The EU has updated harmonised toy safety standards under the Toy Safety Directive, adding EN 71-15:2025 and EN 71-16:2025 and replacing EN 71-4:2020 with EN 71-4:2020+A1:2025. The older EN 71-4:2020 will cease to be harmonised on 14 March 2028.

On 14 September 2026, the EU Commission published Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2032 to update the harmonised standards for toys on the Official Journal.

This decision amended the Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/740, which prescribe the harmonised standards for toys drafted in support of the EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. Here is the summary:

Updating EN 71-4

EN71-4:2020 is updated to EN 71-4:2020+A1:2025. The standard of 2020 version is not considered as a harmonised standard from 14 March 2028.

Adding new harmonised standards

EN 71-15:2025 and EN 71-16:2025 are now adopted to be harmonised standards.
