TAPA and Wavier Certification

TAPA Certification

Intertek supports organisations in achieving TAPA certification through assessment services that verify compliance with internationally recognised security requirements for the storage, handling, and transportation of high-value goods.

As supply chains become increasingly complex and vulnerable to security threats, TAPA certification provides organisations with a recognised framework to identify risks, enhance security controls, and improve operational resilience. More than a compliance requirement, achieving TAPA certification demonstrates a strategic commitment to protecting valuable goods, strengthening customer confidence, and ensuring secure supply chain operations.

By implementing internationally recognised security standards, certified organisations can benefit from improved risk management, potential cost efficiencies, and a stronger competitive position in global markets.

Key Benefits:

  • Reduced risk of cargo theft and supply chain losses through enhanced security practices
  • Potential insurance cost savings for certified organisations
  • Improved reputation and customer confidence through recognised supply chain security standards
  • Greater competitiveness in international markets through stronger supply chain resilience

Waiver Certificate

As global supply chains become more interconnected, exporters, importers, manufacturers, retailers, and financial institutions are placing greater focus on ensuring efficient trade operations and compliance with destination market requirements.

Waiver Certificates Covered

  • ECTN – Electronic Cargo Tracking Note
  • CTN – Cargo Tracking Note
  • BSC / BESC – Cargo Tracking Certificates used across several African markets
  • BIETC – Electronic Cargo Tracking requirement
  • FERI – Fiche Électronique de Renseignement à l’Importation
  • CNCA – Conseil National des Chargeurs approval certificate

Intertek supports businesses in obtaining the required Waiver Certificates by providing expert guidance and verification services to help ensure shipments meet local regulatory requirements. Failure to secure the appropriate certificate may result in customs delays, additional costs, or rejection of shipments at the port of entry. By ensuring compliance before shipment, businesses can minimise trade risks and facilitate smoother movement of goods across borders.

Global Market Access

Organisations entering new international markets must understand and meet country-specific requirements, standards, and documentation obligations to ensure smooth market access and avoid delays or disruptions.

By combining regulatory expertise, inspection, verification, testing, and certification services, we help exporters, importers, manufacturers, and supply chain partners validate shipments, demonstrate compliance, and manage risks throughout the trade journey.

With a global network of experts and technical resources, Intertek delivers tailored trade solutions that provide confidence at every stage — from origin to destination.

Why Quality Assurance Matters

VeraSol certification (formerly Lighting Global Quality Assurance) is often a mandatory requirement for manufacturers to participate in government tenders and international bulk procurement programs. By achieving certification through Intertek, manufacturers can:

  • Access Markets: Meet the eligibility requirements for results-based financing (RBF) and institutional procurement.
  • Build Trust: Provide consumers and distributors with third-party verification of product performance and durability.
  • Ensure Compliance: Navigate the transition from the World Bank-managed program to the new decentralized VeraSol model with a trusted partner.

Together, Intertek and VeraSol continue to empower the off-grid solar industry with innovation, global reach, and the highest standards of quality.

Eco-Levy Programme Certification Process

The process starts with the receipt of the completed Request for Certification (RFC) Form and pro-forma invoice from the Exporter. Intertek will review the application and process it if the products are regulated under the DRC Eco-Levy programme and collect the applicable Eco-Levy.

  1. Request for inspection and Eco-Levy payments
  2. Collection of the Eco-Levy
  3. Shipment inspection (if required)
  4. Certification decision and issuance of Eco-Certificate
  5. Release of the shipment by DGDA
